PROFILE OF A WASHINGTON COUNTY GO-GETTER!

Rebecca Curtis Melvin is definitely a go-getter. When she has a
goal in mind it becomes a passion.

Rebecca was born and raised in West Alexander and graduated
from McGuffey High School and attended Penn Commercial. She
is married to Neal Melvin at which time she moved to Scenery Hill in Washington
County. They have four children, three of them currently teenagers. Needless to say
she is a very busy person.

Rebecca has always had a love for writing, has written three full length manuscripts,
but had no success in finding a publisher.

To bring in a small extra income she built a web site CUTTING EDGE LITERARY.
Upcoming authors began sending her manuscripts to be edited in preparation to
sending the finished product to publishers. One individual she worked with notified
her later that he had been unable to find a publisher, she told him she was having
the same problem.

A few days later he contacted her and asked her, “Why don’t you publish. You are
doing everything else.”

A seed was planted. After much research, both soul and financial, she decided to
build her own publishing business. Thus DOUBLE EDGE PRESS was born. She does
everything except the actual printing. She does the editing, formatting, pricing, bar
coding, covers (when not supplied by the author). She has contracts with printers for
“on demand print”, which means after the initial set-up is completed, when book
orders come in she orders them printed and delivered.

Her publishing house is traditional in that when she accepts a manuscript, the
author is signed to a contract, receives an advance toward the sale of his (or her)
books, after which the author receives a semi-annual royalty check for books sold.

Her first release was “SHALL DIE BY THE SWORD” by T. S. Beckett, a physician living
in Virginia.

The second release was “IN THE BRIEF ETERNAL SILENCE” by – (you probably figured
this out for yourself) Rebecca. It has since just recently been re-released.

At the present time she has 6 books by various authors published – the latest by a
retired military and defense department employee. In addition her other authors
consist of a two time Maxwell Award winning author, an editor for Ancient Paths
Literary Magazine and free-lance writer, and an attorney from Michigan.

Two of these authors are currently writing their second book, which she will be
releasing in 2008.

She yet has three books listed for release in 2007, consisting of a two book set non-
fiction autobiography by Martha Curtis Dougherty and a second book by James Spurr.

Rebecca’s Book IN THE BRIEF ETERNAL SILENCE was chosen by the Bentworth School
District as suitable for the Library Club’s Journalism Class as their book of the year.
