11/5/07 DOUBLE EDGE PRESS TITLE ON TOP 10 BESTSELLER LIST THIRD TIME IN THREE MONTHS

Double Edge Press Publishing announced that one of their titles, Conviction, a sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice by Skylar Hamilton Burris was again on the top ten bestseller list for Religious Romance for Amazon/Waldenbooks online sales. The title previously was on the top ten list twice in August of 2007, topping out at number five, and hit the number 10 position again on November 2, 2007. Visit http://hummingbirdworldmedia.com/PR-11-04-07.html for a pdf snapshot taken on that date to see the actual ranking.

Rebecca Melvin, CEO of the small Pittsburgh area based publishing house, is pleased with how well the title is doing. “For a first time author published through a small independent publisher, I think its success is unprecedented. I’m not surprised, however. It is a very well-written story with great attention to detail, which followers of the genre demand and reward when they find it.”

Skylar Hamilton Burris is at work on a second novel, but its release date is unspecified. “We don’t demand a time-frame from our authors,” Melvin explains. “We get first option on their next book, but we don’t believe in giving them a deadline. It’s my belief it tends to interfere with the creative process and keeps a writer from producing their best work. I’m sure hers will be well worth the wait when she completes it.”

Rebecca Melvin goes on to say that she expects the title to sell very well for some time to come. “It seems to still be picking up momentum, rather than peaking. I imagine 2008 will see even better sales for it.” Conviction was only the fourth title Double Edge Press put out when it was first published in April 2006. Since then, the small independent publisher has more than doubled its catalog, and has two further titles scheduled for early 2008. It specializes in Christian Friendly books, which they define as books having a Christian World View, but not necessarily a pointed Christian message. Are there other books by Rebecca Melvin?

    Rebecca Melvin Says:

    Linda,

In the Brief Eternal Silence was my fourth fully written manuscript. This was prior to me publishing and these three predecessors went the route of an agent in Pittsburgh. One sold, but due to publishing scheduling was never printed (you can imagine my disappointment).

Later, after writing In the Brief Eternal Silence, I was grateful that the other three never made the light of day (see my post about The Million Word Club).

Since beginning publishing in 2005, I haven’t had the time to write. Fortunately, so many aspects of publishing involve creativity that I haven’t felt starved for a creative outlet, although I do still miss the writing.

    All the best,
    Rebecca Melvin
